This brief resume of our association's background is prepared for new residents and prospective members to acquaint them with the circumstances which prompted our founders to organize. It will also serve to emphasize our belief that a numerically strong membership could prove vital to our future well being.
In the spring of 1969, a newly appointed superintendent of the Lake Head National Recreation Area started a series of moves designed to eliminate all mobile homes from Lakeshore Trailer Village. Permanent occupancy was prohibited and the ultimate objective of establishing the village as an "over-nighter" type park for travel trailers became clear. At a public meeting, the superintendent bluntly requested residents to "start looking" for new sites for their mobile homes. At Lakeshore Trailer Owners Association, our mission is to promote environmental sustainability and advocate for policies that protect our planet. We believe that small actions can make a big impact, and we work tirelessly to create a more sustainable future for all.

As this was an obvious contradiction of the previous park service policy which had authorized and approved the establishment of two new sections of mobile home lots in the park, the concessionaire and local mobile home owners were greatly concerned. Realizing that in "unity there is strength", local residents decided to pool their efforts to find the means of contesting the above action. Donations were solicited and residents responded with sums varying from $25.00 to $100.00 and more. Arvin Forrest, concessionaire, volunteered to match dollar for dollar. All money donated. The concessionaire from Katherine's Landing also sent $500.00. Thus, was our association born. won! The action to evict mobile homes from the park was dropped, the superintendent was transferred and our tenancy no longer questioned.
Out of dire necessity to protect our rights to be in Lakeshore! An attorney was retained and sent to Washington for conferences. Legislators were contacted, namely, U.S. Senators Alan Bible and Howard Cannon. After many actions, too detailed to describe here, the battle has won! The action to evict mobile homes from the park was dropped, the superintendent was transferred and our tenancy no longer questioned.
The association has grown and remained active since that time. While it attempts to meet the member's wishes for local events, as far as these can be learned and provided for with local facilities, we never forget our dedicated purpose of maintaining the organizational framework, the finances and the undeniable influence of a majority of resident members. This constitutes insurance, we believe, in the continuation of our enjoyment of this area. We are glad you have join us! Further information may be had by contacting any of our officers or directors.
